Montreal - J. W. Waterhouse

你不會相信，在 Montreal 我再次與 Anne 相遇。

Willows whiten, aspens quiver,
Little breezes dusk and shiver
Thro' the wave that runs forever
By the island in the river
Flowing down to Camelot.

這是故事一開始 Anne 在樹林裡沈醉的詩作，
丁尼生 ( Alfred Lord Tennyson ) 的詩 - The Lady of Shalott。
在旅行出發前，我好奇的搜尋關於丁尼生這篇詩作的故事，
並找到了 Anne 在故事中所扮演角色的畫作。













Four gray walls, and four gray towers,
Overlook a space of flowers,
And the silent isle imbowers
The Lady of Shalott.

經過二個月，在 Montreal 街道上，
出現了這個似曾相似的畫作，
彷彿是一種註定的相遇，在 Montreal 。












The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts，
最近的展覽是英國著名的藝術家
J. W. Waterhouse ( 1849~1917 )作品，
選中這幅淒美大師的代表作，為這個展覽的代表，
亦讓我停佇在這個路旁，仔細端詳與回憶了許久。

拉斐爾前派 ( Pre-Raphaelites ) 大師 - John William Waterhouse。
拉斐爾前派主張回歸十五世紀義大利文藝復興初期，畫風細緻唯美，
以古典歷史、神話或詩作為繪畫題材。
J. W. Waterhouse 此幅 The Lady of Shalott ( 1888 )，
便由丁尼生的同名詩作而來。

There she waves by night and day
A magic web with colours gay.
She has heard a whisper say,
A curse is on her if she stay
To look down to Camelot.
She knows not what the curse may be,
And so she weaveth steadily,
Ane little other care hath she,
The Lady of Shalott.
